If you were cooking up a pot of soul, groove, and pure musical magic—this is the recipe.
Start with DeWayne Pate on bass, a powerhouse who’s laid down grooves for Robben Ford, Matt Schofield, Arturo Sandoval, and Chris Cain. He currently holds down the low end in both the Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy and the Ray Charles Project.
Stir in the smooth, smoky keys of David K. Mathews, featured keyboardist with Santana. A veteran of the legendary Rat Band and longtime accompanist to Etta James and Tower of Power, David brings soul pedigree in every note.
For vocals, bring in the incomparable Glenn Walters—original member of the HooDoo Rhythm Devils, lead singer with the Zazu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, and currently lending his golden voice to the Ray Charles Project and Soulful Security.
Then kick it all into gear with Kevin Hayes on drums. A former member of the Rat Band and 20-year veteran of the Robert Cray Band, Kevin has played with everyone from Bonnie Hayes to Etta James to Jon Hendricks. These days, he keeps the beat for the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra and Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings.
Put it all together and you’ve got WMPH—a name that started as their initials and became a mission:
