My name is Maximiliano Cortes, I am leader of Max Cortes Y Su Orquesta. I have been playing music since I was 18 years old. I grew up in the San Francisco Mission District and was heavily influenced by Carlos Santana’s band. My interest in playing the Congas, Bongos, and Timbale drums was a direct result of watching his band perform at the Fillmore West and Winterland venues in SF. I studied with percussionist Louie Romero, who was Willie Colon’s Timbalero, but mostly self-taught listening and studying numerous recordings throughout the years. I have performed in various Salsa bands over the years, as a sideman, and in 2019 I started my own band. We perform various styles of music including Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Ballads, Latin Rock and Latin Jazz. We always aim to please the audience by offering different genres of music. We don’t want anyone to feel “left out”. We perform at different venues in the bay area, one highlight being that we were the opening act for headliner Pete Escovedo and his Orchestra at the Pittsburg Seafood Festival in 2023. My main motivation for performing music is to give the audience a chance to put their cares behind them and give them a moment in time to appreciate life through music and dance.
