GTS Band: Got the Soul!

  • Vino Godfather 1005 Walnut Avenue Vallejo, CA, 94592 United States (map)

“Got the Soul” (GTS band) has been performing since 1985, playing mostly Latin, Funk and Soul music. Some of the music you will hear includes: Santana, Tower of Power, Aretha Franklin, Taste of Honey, Heat Wave, James Brown, Con funk Shun, Ohio Players, Malo, Amy Winehouse, Gloria Gaynor, Bruno Mars and Isley Brothers to name a few.

The band went through several names including The Third Rail (1976-1977) Natural Impulse (1977-1982) which backed up Lady Bianca, then GTS in 1985. The band plays both covers and originals. IN 2004, GTS recorded a CD under the name Latin Soul Project and with the help of Santana Management got a gig in Paris where they performed for two weeks.

The band has enjoyed a few record contracts for songs reissued from the Natural Impulse Catalog, “She Went Away” under Soul Junction Records in London and “We’re gonna make it through” under Epsilon Records in London.

Members of GTS have performed with members of Tower of Power, Annie Sampson, Forest Wilson, Maria Muldaur, Pete Escovedo, and Con funk Shun to name a few. GTS was a mainstay at Lou’s Pier 47 in San Francisco for over 20 years.  They have also performed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. This is their first performance at Vino Godfather, and they are going to bring the dance party with them.

The current lineup of musicians includes the band leader Rick Ramos on Guitar and Vocals, TW Johnson Jr. on Drums, Tommy Nunnelly-lead vocals, Geoff Glibas-keyboards, Tim Leong-bass, Kevin Galloway-Sax, Tom Fuglestad-trumpet, David Hernandez-percussion and special guests including Joe Camacho on Bari sax, Bill Ortega on trumpet, Bill Tamayo on Keyboards, and Kathy Kennedy and Joyce Grant as guest vocalist.
