Experience a 400-year-old German brewing tradition as we plunge red-hot iron pokers into our newly released B.F.H. Doppelbock Lager. Watch the beer transform before your eyes with a dramatic sizzle, steam, and rich caramelized foam.
What is Bierstacheln?
Beer poking, or Bierstacheln, is a historic German winter ritual where a glowing-hot metal rod is submerged into malty beer. The intense heat caramelizes unfermented sugars creating a thick, creamy foam and adding notes of toffee, campfire, and toasted marshmallow. This nearly forgotten tradition was popular in German beer halls and colonial America, where it was called a "loggerhead" drink.
About Our B.F.H. Doppelbock
Though we typically strive for balance in our beers, even we, on occasion, succumb to the allure of excess. The former shipwrights of Mare Island often cackle as they mention the "Big 'Freakin' Hammer"—literally, it was the final-resort tool for the bent panel, the stuck motor, the rusted bolt. Figuratively, it took on a whole new meaning. Highly extracted, high octane, and not for the faint of heart... we present this liquid B.F.H.
