Traveler Resources and Tips

Is there a museum on Mare Island to visit?
Yes there is. It is by appointment only but our Visitor Service staff at the Vallejo CVB can certainly make those arrangements for you or you can contact Ken Zadwick, President of Mare Island Historic Foundation at 707.557.1538

Can you tour Mare Island independently?
Yes, you can drive on to Mare Island now. Tours of building such as Saint Peter's Chapel have to be arranged in advance. Some streets are also fenced off for grading of future developments or homes. The Mare Island Historic Park Foundation does offer interesting guided tours for a $14.00 donation which includes tours of the Officer Mansion, Historic Cemetery, St. Peters Chapel with Tiffany stained glass windows, the Mare Island Museum and gift shop and more. To schedule your guided tour please call 707.644.4746

What are the ships across the channel and can you tour them?
The white ship is the former ARTSHIP (also former Crescent City's T.S. Golden Bear) and is currently moored on Mare Island and future status is TBD. The ship is not available for tours.

What time does the first, last or next ferry leave?
The ferry runs almost every hour. For a schedule and directions please go to www.baylinkferry.com or call toll free 1.877.64.ferry (33779)

How early should I get here to catch the ferry?
Approximately 45 minutes before it is scheduled to leave, especially in the mornings or on days of the San Francisco Giants baseball games. The ferry leaves promptly at scheduled times.

How do I buy Ferry Tickets after the ticket office closes at 5pm?
Purchase tickets on the ferry boat at the one way fare. Cash only.

How far is Fisherman's Wharf from the Ferry Building in San Francisco?
The "F" line historic trolley cars will take you from the front of the Ferry Building to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf in about 10 minutes for $1.50 regular adult fare. Walking would take about 25 minutes on the dock side of the Embarcadero.

Does the ferry go to McCovey Cove at the ballpark?
No. The best way to get there is to take the ferry to the San Francisco Ferry Building. From there you can walk to the Embarcadero Station, between Davis and Drumm on Market (Across from the Hyatt). Go downstairs and take the Muni T-Third St. or N- Judah line inbound side of tracks straight to the Park. (It is going toward the CALTRAIN DEPOT - You get off at 2nd and King). You could also walk there from the Ferry Building in about 15 minutes. For Muni information call 415-673-MUNI (6864) or visit www.sfmuni.com. A Vallejo Baylink ferry will leave FROM McCovey Cove only after night games.

Does the ferry still go to Angel Island as well as San Francisco?
The ferry no longer stops at Angel Island. You would have to take the ferry to San Francisco's Pier 41 and catch a separate ferry from there.

Are cars or dogs allowed on the ferry?
The Baylink is a passenger Ferry. The City of Vallejo does accommodate Ferry riders with free public parking across the street from the Ferry Building which leaves you the option to park for as many hours or days as needed. Service animals are allowed onboard the ferry when accompanied by a person whose disability requires use of the animal. Pets are also allowed on all City of Vallejo ferries and buses in accordance with Baylink's pet and service animal policy.
