Congratulations to Ka-tu Allen from Vallejo, CA whose name was drawn from those who correctly answered “the Vallejo Township Board of Trade” to last month’s question: What was the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce’s original name when it began in May 1874? Ka-tu received four (4) tickets aboard the Red & White Fleet’s Golden Gate Bay Cruise (an $88 value). Have a great trip!

In celebrating February as Black History Month, did you know that best-selling author Ernest Gaines ("A Lesson Before Dying" and "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman") moved to Vallejo at age 15 and later said "I began writing in the Vallejo library?"

Did you know that the Flyway Festival was founded in November 1996 by Myrna Hayes and Marc Holmes, while staffers of Save San Francisco Bay Association, as part of a project called the Partnership for San Pablo Baylands. Inspired by urging of Robin Leong, of the Napa-Solano Audubon Society, they crafted an event that would introduce the Bay Area public to the world of birding, the fastest growing outdoor recreation in America.
