Unfortunately, no one correctly answered 1951 to last month’s Trivia Question: The Solano County Fair is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year with the Fair running July 22nd - 26th. What year did horseracing begin at the Solano County Fair?? So last month’s prize of two passes on Red & White Fleet’s Golden Gate Bay Cruise (a $44.00 value) will be included in this month’s prize.

Arc Ecology sponsors the 2nd Annual Mare Faire on August 8th & 9th. They also host an Access Day to the Mare Island Heritage Preserve one day every month. What day of each month does this take place?
The winning entry from the drawing will win two FREE passes for the Red & White Fleet’s Golden Gate Bay Cruise, plus two FREE Premier Passes for PIER 39 (a total value of $124.00!).
Please email your answers to info@visitvallejo.com.

Did you know that buried at the Mare Island cemetery are Daniel Turner and his wife Anna Key Turner. Daniel Turner was elected as a Representative from North Carolina to the United States House of Representatives, where he served from March 4, 1827 until March 3, 1829. He came to California as the Superintending Engineer for the construction of public works at the Mare Island Navy Yard on September 16, 1854, a position he held until his death there in 1860.
Anna Key Turner was the daughter of Francis Scott Key, the composer of our National Anthem.

Did you know that the sponsor of the Mare Faire on August 8th & 9th, Arc Ecology, was founded in San Francisco in 1993 and began work on Mare Island Naval Shipyard issues beginning in 1994? For more than a decade Arc Ecology staff scientists have provided support to the Mare Island Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) and greater Mare Island community-based organizations by providing detailed scientific analyses of environmental cleanup and restoration documentation provided by the Navy. |
