If you are frequent walker or runner along Vallejo’s waterfront, you will see a propeller from an unidentified Navy ship. Can you name the ship? (Hint: it was badly damaged by a typhoon in Samoa in March 1889.)
Please email your answers to info@visitvallejo.com. The winner chosen from a drawing of correct entries will win a $30.00 gift certificate for Zio Fraedo’s of Vallejo restaurant!
Congratulations to Jeff Brown from Vallejo, CA whose name was drawn from those who correctly answered Bunya, Bunya tree to last month’s question: Can you name the type of tree (only two are there) from the Norfolk Island of Australia that is located in Farragut Plaza on Mare Island? Jeff wins a $30 gift certificate for Zio Fraedo’s of Vallejo restaurant. Good job, Jeff!

In honor of the 9th Annual Daffodil Tea on April 26th, did you know that the St. Peter’s Chapel on Mare Island was the Navy’s first interdenominational chapel? It was built at a cost of $5,000 and held its first service on October 6, 1901. It is the oldest Naval Chapel in the Pacific. Along with its bronze wall plaques and hand carved wood tablets in the ceiling, the true jewels of this chapel are its 29 stained glass windows. |

Did you know that Vallejo’s first subdivision was Vallejo Heights? The development started with Queen Anne homes down near Sacramento Street and proceeded gradually to custom-built Teicheira homes at the top of the hill – one of the best views in town!! |
