Did you know that an underground spring has produced a steady flow of water directly beneath the new Empress Theatre stage since the theatre’s first opening? A complex drainage system runs beneath the stage, diverting water to pumps which run 24/7 to keep the theatre dry. |

In celebration of the Vallejo’s Fifth Sports Hall of Fame awards this month, did you know that the 1918 Mare Island Marine Corp football team won the 1918 Rose Bowl? They beat the U.S Army team from Camp Lewis, Washington 19-7.The Mare Island team returned to the Rose Bowl in 1919 as well but they lost to the U.S. Navy team from Great Lakes, Illinois 17-0.
