Mare Island
The former Mare Island Naval Shipyard is located in the city of Vallejo. Since its closure in 1996, Mare Island has been successfully utilized by the film industry on a variety of projects. The island contains several large buildings that have been used as sound stages on such projects as Jack, Sphere, and Flubber. Mare Island's unique "looks" have also been used in location filming for such feature films as Metro, What Dreams May Come, Patch Adams, and Golden Dreams.
